A beginners guide to the chakras
The Chakras are energy centers within our bodies. Some theories believe there are as many as 114 chakras throughout our bodies, but usually you'll hear reference to the main 7 chakras. The 7 main chakras run from the top of your head to the base of your spine. The chakra system is a complex and ancient energy system that originated in India. They were first mentioned in the Vedas, ancient sacred texts of spiritual knowledge dating from 1500 to 1000 BC.
Chakra (cakra in Sanskrit) can translate to “wheel” and refers to energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning areas of energy that should stay balanced and "open". Each one corresponds to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional, mental, and physical well-being. It's believed if a chakra becomes "blocked" or imbalanced, you may experience physical, mental, or emotional distress.
You can work with your chakras in a variety of ways, such as yoga, meditation, sound baths, reiki, energy work, and more.
We'll dive deeper into each chakra in future posts, but a brief overview of each is included below.
