Yoga Tutorial: Tree Pose
When you think of yoga, you may think of tree pose. It's a common shape that is frequently used to portray an ancient practice. But did you know there's a few different variations of it?
In this short video, we walk through three different options for the shape. We recommend trying all three to find out which works best for you on any given day. Your balance changes day to day, so it's important to know that this shape may also change for you.
Baby Sprout:
- Place your heel against your standing leg with your heel either above, below, or behind your ankle
- Press the sole of your standing foot into the earth
- Open your lifted knee to the side of your space
- Hug your standing hip into your midline
- Engage your core
- Stand tall and relax your shoulders
- Place your hands in any position you'd like (heart's center, by your sides, reaching overhead, behind your back, etc)
Low Branch Tree:
- Place the sole of your lifted foot against the inner calf of your standing leg
- Press the sole of your standing foot into the earth
- Open your lifted knee to the side of your space
- Hug your standing hip into your midline
- Engage your core
- Stand tall and relax your shoulders
- Place your hands in any position you'd like (heart's center, by your sides, reaching overhead, behind your back, etc)
High Brand Tree:
- Place the sole of your lifted foot against the inner thigh of your standing leg
- Press the sole of your standing foot into the earth
- Open your lifted knee to the side of your space
- Hug your standing hip into your midline
- Engage your core
- Stand tall and relax your shoulders
- Place your hands in any position you'd like (heart's center, by your sides, reaching overhead, behind your back, etc)
