What should I expect for the January 21st, 2023 new moon?

January 21st, 2023 New Moon in Aquarius

The full moon is a beautiful sight to behold, but my favorite phase of the lunar cycle is the new moon. The new moon is the first phase of a lunar cycle, and it occurs about 14-15 days after the full moon when the moon passes between the earth and sun, causing it to appear unilluminated to us earthlings. Unlike full moon energy that asks us to expand and shed what is no longer serving us, new moon energy asks us to get quiet, turn inward, and begin to draw in what we want to create in our lives. New moons are all about new beginnings and planting seeds for your future dreams. It’s a great time to meditate on your dreams and tune into your higher self. What an exciting time!

As we discussed in the full moon blog post, when the moon moves through its phases it also moves through the zodiac signs. This Saturday’s new moon is in the sign of Aquarius, one of the most intuitive and creative signs in the Zodiac. Even though Aquarius is represented as the water bearer in the zodiac, it is actually an air sign (like Gemini and Libra), and like the other air signs, can spend a lot of time living in their own heads. Getting lost in thought makes Aquarians excellent problem solvers, but their cool, collected, logical nature can sometimes cause them to appear aloof.

The new moon in Aquarius invites us to start to detach from our emotional baggage and tap into what we intuitively know to be true. Aquarius energy asks us to embrace our true selves and be honest and unapologetic about what we want to call in for our highest good.

This new moon also occurs one day before the Chinese New Year, which starts the year of the rabbit. Rabbits are commonly associated with good luck and abundance, and in many myths and legends, also act as guides between heaven and earth. Rabbits are considered highly perceptive and often represent those with psychic abilities. We can work with this archetype to tap into our own intuition to gain clarity on what we truly desire in our lives. It’s important to remember that it’s hard to get what you want unless you’re very clear on what you want.

So, how can you do this?

During the New Moon circle on Saturday, January 21st, we will begin with a short restorative practice to start to draw our attention inward. Then, we'll settle into a meditation to gain clarity on what we truly want to call into our lives during this lunar cycle, over the next few months, or the remainder of the year. We will end with creating spell jars to encapsulate what we are calling in and seal our intentions, leaving with a visual reminder of the amazing creative power we hold within each and every one of us.

I hope to see you there!
